Herbal Extracts and Hormones à à à à à Herbs are found everywhere, and hormones are a natural product of everyone's body. The production of hormones increases and decreases with the age and development of the individual. Due to the nature of hormones and the ongoing research still being done, this article will investigate only two hormones that are in common use by the everyday person. à à à à à Herbs, on the other hand, can be found from California to China and as far as consumers are concerned, they are now mainstream products that can be found in supermarkets and drug stores world wide. Healing plants and herbs are used by over ninety percent of the world's people. Mowry, pgs.1-11 In the United States, with the introduction of herbal capsules and pills, people are enjoying the benefits of Earth's good medicines. The herb industry has been growing at about thirty percent per year for the past several years. Herbs are being used in homes, for more than just spicing the sauce or glazing the chicken. Herbs are being used as an alternative for medications as well. In the coming years, we may see the introduction of newer and better medicinal herbs as scientists Mowry pgs. 26-27 continue their search for the cures of all aches and pains. à à à à à In past years, herbs were used for pains and aches. These herbs are making a comeback because they have fewer side effects than regular medicine. An example is willow bark Mowry, pgs. 43-49 which is being used instead of aspirin. Aspirin was made from the active ingredient in willow bark. However, people are using willow bark instead of aspirin because it does not cause the stomach to bleed as aspirin does. à à à à à Ginkgo is being sold as a leading prescription drug in Germany and most countries in Europe. Childrens Books and Popular Myths about the First Wave of Feminism :: Essays Papers
Children's Books and Popular Myths about the First Wave of Feminism What is the First Wave (1) of Feminism? How is it portrayed as a ââ¬Å"suffrageâ⬠movement? Does the average study of First Wave feminism look at issues outside of suffrage: consent laws, marital rape, education, womenââ¬â¢s right to own property, divorce rights, and so on? I wanted to look at the portrayal of the ââ¬Å"heroesâ⬠of the first wave ââ¬â Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony ââ¬â as well the movement itself, through books aimed at children. Childrenââ¬â¢s books seem like an obvious way to look at how the movement is popularly seen and understood. If we set aside condescending ideas of needing to ââ¬Å"dumb downâ⬠ideas to introduce them to children, or needing figures to be purely heroic. Then, we assume that most people, who do not actively pursue it later in life, receive the bulk of their information on the First Wave of feminism from kindergarten through high school history education. The Book Choosing Process The sources cover a variety of age ranges and publishers. There was no science in the selection, they were simply the easiest to find at the downtown public library in Syracuse, New York (2), which to me indicates they are the most likely to be picked up by a student doing a report or reading for enjoyment. The sources are not supposed to represent the ââ¬Å"worstâ⬠by any standards ââ¬â they are children's history books, all of which do in depth studies of suffrage. These are not coloring books or propaganda, which, perhaps, is why the information is so dangerous. Brill, Marlene Targ. Let Women Vote! Brookfield: Millbrook, 1996. Mass Communications Essay
Advertisers have only one mission to achieve and that is to attract attention of possible buyers so that this attention can translate into the actual buying of a product or service. With this objective in mind, advertisers depend very much on projecting their advertisements that adhere to motivations and stimulus of their target market. When advertisers know what things catches a womanââ¬â¢s attention, they are sure to be able to communicate their other messages afterwards. For example, for products and services that target the women market, advertisers approach advertising activities on things that will make women stop, look and listen. For young adults, it would be handsome men, beautiful clothes and anything that is consistent with prevailing fads. Motivations for older women would be handsome men, anything for their familiesââ¬â¢ well being, anything to preserve youth and beauty. Besides physical points that advertisers use to lure attention, there are other factors that help advertisers reach more audiences and that is to project interesting and convincing topics such as cause oriented, value driven campaigns. Some products such as Body Shop advertise their support for women entrepreneurs worldwide. Products stamped with ââ¬Ëorganically grownââ¬â¢, ââ¬Ëbaby-friendlyââ¬â¢ or ââ¬Ësmoke-freeââ¬â¢ attract women who are health and family oriented. Some advertisements such as beauty products get prominent doctors to endorse their products and this adheres to the safety issues that their women market is privy of. Three ads that catch my appeal are Body Shop, Apple Macbook and Dove Soap. Least appealing to me are Guess Jeans, car ads with sexy girls sitting on the cars and the Marlboro ads. Looking into the list above, I realize that the advertisements I find appealing are the advertisements that insert social concern and value to women as part of the companyââ¬â¢s corporate mission and vision. Body Shop products are similar to other beauty products but their advertisement of helping suppliers from third world countries strike a chord inside me. Dove Soap commercials promote womenââ¬â¢s preservation of beauty that does not need surgery or alterations. For me, Dove Soap advertisements adhere to my own idea of ageless beauty. Stereotyping is often used in advertisements because it reaches more people who usually have the same notion of what men are, of what cars are and what women are. I believe that using womenââ¬â¢s body or menââ¬â¢s body as a means to attract attention to a product or service is poor taste. It appeals to instincts and therefore borders the animalistic nature of the people that should not be turned on because it is almost like regressing to becoming an animal once again. A ââ¬Å"bad adsâ⬠are advertisements that are tasteless. They do not respect any culture and would trample on the sensitivities of peopleââ¬â¢s lives and uniqueness just to get attention. These ads get attention no matter what. Advertisers of bad ads believe that bad or good publicity is still publicity. ââ¬Å"Bad adsâ⬠do not have any effort to invest on social responsibility. It is unfortunate that ââ¬Ëbad adsââ¬â¢ proliferate more than ââ¬Ëgood adsââ¬â¢ because they actually are the ones who catch more attention just by the mere fact that they are bad. Bad ads catch the attention of both informed and misinformed consumers therefore bad ads must be regulated and policed. The power of advertisers is tremendous in terms of communicating beliefs and ideas to the mass audience. As for my part, I have to remain vigilant against advertisements that might catch my attention but have hidden persuasions that will lead to losing the treasured values I have. Especially being a woman myself, my support to bad ads will only hurt my own disposition and respectability as a woman. If I would want to be treated right, I must support advertisements that respect the role of women rather than abuse it. References: Body Shop Commercial Atwan, Robert. 1979. Beautiful Tragic Love (Creative Writing)
g Beautiful Tragic Love I never asked my life to be a FAIRY TALE or PERFECT, all I wanted was a normal life, and I didn't have a very happy childhood living with my parents as an only child. As I was growing up all my life it revolved around men, every time I would fall in love with one, they would leave me after 3 months. I was beginning to feel like a hopeless romantic just like my mum when my dad had left her when I was beginning to experiment with love. I felt cursed. I kept asking myself ââ¬Å"WHY, WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO ME All men are dogs! I am almost twenty one and I donââ¬â¢t know if the problem lies with me or my family, all I know is that I have given my parents so much problems and so muchà pain, I guess my life is a long journey and am finding myself in it everyday. My story began last summer of 2009; I could feel that there was something in the air that day. Birds were chirping, the wind was blowing leaving me shivers down my spine and everything felt so alive. I had beenà depressedà for about a year before that day.I wasà walkingà alongà the beachà with my bare feet buried in the sand and the waves of the sea crushing into my feet when my life started to take a turn for the bestâ⬠¦ From a distance I saw a handsome young man admiring me from far. Our eyes met and it was like nothing I had ever felt before with any of the men I had been with. It was something special. We beganà walkingà closer together like something out of a movie. I felt onà top of the world for once, my eyes were sparkling and myà stomachà was fluttering with butterflies, as we walked closer and closer to each other. When we became close enough to talk about our personal lives, Will would get on his knee and speak my fluent language, French and say the mostà romanticà things. At that point I knew he had my heart. We talked until 2. 00 a. m. The nextà morning it turned out that he lives only about ten minutes from where I was living. We started seeing more of each other, Will begin to get serious about us. I fought the depressionà that I had and soon I was glowing with life and he was the world to me, he became my anything and everything. We had been going out for about six months when he met my mother. My mother disapproved of Will mainly because she thought I was too young to be in a serious relationship and that I wasnââ¬â¢t ready because this relationship might end up like the rest of my other terrible relationship. Just like any mother she was worried about me but I kept reassuring her that this time it was something different. She soon banned me from seeing him. For a while we went out against her will and had four more months of endless happiness. I had finally met someone whom I loved and wanted to spend the rest of my life with. One day when I finished from work he had texted me to meet him at the same beach we met a year ago. When I got there I saw him standing on one of the big rocks beside the sea , he waved from far and yelled my name ââ¬Å"LAKE, AM OVER HERE! â⬠my heart was beating so fast as if I was in a race. When I got on the rock with him, it was nearly sunset time; he took both of my hands (Oh My God) I screamed quietly inside with excitement hoping that he would say something along the lines of marrying him. He looked at me straight in the eye to show that he was serious, and started saying ââ¬Å"Lake ever since I have laid eyes on you, itââ¬â¢s like you have awaked me from my soul, and I donââ¬â¢t see life without you. He moved on from saying ââ¬Å"Would you like to move in with me? â⬠All I could feel was special, wanted, happy, in love, and emotional all at the same time. Few tears dropped down my cheeks without realizing because I kept repeating what he had just said. No boy had ever said anything like what Will had said. Holding me closer to him I looked him deep in those amazing emerald green eyes and answered ââ¬Å"YES!!! â⬠as I fall in to kiss him. Life couldnââ¬â¢t have got any better; we were so madly in love that we couldnââ¬â¢t wait so we got married a few months later. It has been two years since we got married and it feels like it was just yesterday. On our two yearà anniversary, I was 4 months pregnant with our first child, so that night he had planned to take me out to a fancyà French Restaurant. As we were leaving we both looked up at the big beautiful moon, it was shinning like a bight, bright light, it was just the perfect moment in my life where I could hold pause forever. When suddenly a man came out of the shadows with a gun, he came took my purse and Will's wallet. Someone saw the crime taking place and screamed ââ¬Å"STOPâ⬠at the man.Everything became a blur as Will threw himself in front of me as the gun went off. I couldnââ¬â¢t believe my eyes, what I hadnââ¬â¢t envisioned in a million years seemed to become a reality. The robber ran off into the night and left Will to d ie in my arms. I looked down at him and tears started to explode down my cheeks as I screamed ââ¬Å"HELP! â⬠ââ¬Å"SOMEONE CALL THE AMBALANCE! â⬠I held him closely for the longest time as he bled to his death. Right before he died he told me ââ¬Å"We will beà together againâ⬠¦ I promiseâ⬠¦ I love you and the babyâ⬠¦and both of you will be always in y heart. â⬠He looked so peaceful and handsome just like the first day I had met him; my heart was torn into pieces as he drew his last breath. He lay there dead in my arms staring at me with his emerald green eyes. I felt helpless as I held him even closer and kept screaming and crying ââ¬Å"NOâ⬠¦ NO THIS CANââ¬â¢T BE HAPPENINGâ⬠¦NOT TO MEâ⬠¦NOT AGAIN!! â⬠He will always be in my heart; whenever the wind blows I can still hear him whispering sweet things in my ear. Sometimes when you find happiness again in your life, it turns into your worst nightmare.

Research paper on false memory for psychology Essay
Research paper on false memory for psychology - Essay Example This paper aimed at ascertaining whether this is true using a sample of 126 people (36 Females and 90 Males). According to Roediger III, H et al. (2001), visual objects are better remembered than are words which are just memorized. To him, imagery aids are remembered since they are retained in the memory. All recall phenomenon depend on the interaction and retrieval process of the words to be recalled. To Roediger III, H. and McDermott, K.B. (1995), words which are associated with related words presented earlier on are false fully recalled. In a research, Roediger III and McDermott proved that, words which are related in a certain order are easier to false-recall than those that not related. This is so because, the memory tends to recall words in a certain order which may fail if the order is not followed. Human minds often retrieve information due to sheer falsehoods. According to Cathy, L. M. et al. (1999), in day to day life, many people interact, communicate and form and interrelationship between the various words they sue. To Cathy, L. M. et a, the ability to recall this words depends on the preexisting connections between the words and the other associates. The study below is based on the capability of recalling words. Age has also been cited as a factor in memory recall. In this case, this will be tested with the age of the various participants being split into two, those aged between 15-21 and those above 21 years; However, according to many researchers, the ability to recall words not included in any list does not depend on ones age. In this research study, it will be assumed that, the recall capability of all the participants is the same across all ages. Almost all of them are assumed to be able to recall words at the medium level. Some 126 participants were selected for the study with 36 females and 90 males. All of them were required to read the 15 words from the 15 lists and then told to remember

Project Postmortem - Essay Example The training sessionââ¬â¢s goals were effectively completed as per the two day schedule. At the end of the session all the participant had acquired the expected skills and proved to be competitive in their work execution. During the session however, there were some changes that occurred to the schedule in that we had to stop the training session for six ours due to the delay in arrival of some training equipment. We however solved this loss of time by extending the training sessions by some few hours into the night. The two day training session was of high quality as can be seen by the massive improvement in the performance of the trained employees. This has been seen by the large volume of the companyââ¬â¢s products that are being produced every day. The number of errors and unintended mistakes by the employees have been greatly reduced. We there recommend for frequent similar training sessions to improve on the productivity of this company (Jackie L,
